Thinking Day - cancelled PDF Print E-mail
Written by mark procter

We have had to inform the Guides that we cannot find sufficient people to support their Thinking Day this year. The event turned out to require more people than we thought - at least 6 on both days, as about 200 Guides were expected to turn up on the weekend. Perhaps if we had realised this earlier, we may have been able to have found support, possibly including members from nearby clubs.

Fortunately, we now have sufficient support for the Heritage Open Day at Bank Hall, Bretherton on Easter Sunday (4th April 2010). If anyone has Easter Day clear and wants to support this event, please contact Mark.

EVENT UPDATE 29TH JANUARY. david G4AKC and keith G7LPW talk is on thursday 9th of september 2010 is confirmed.

The advanced exam features a significant amount of electronic and radio propagation knowledge, but if you are familiar with electronics, most Intermediate members would stand a good chance.

Hot Pot Supper Report PDF Print E-mail

Our Hot Pot supper was well attended, despite the cold and snow, and we welcomed the RSGB President-elect, Dave Wilson (M0OBW), and the voice of GB2RS, Mark Walmsley (G0VOF). The Supper was once again excellent. Dave is seen here receiving a token of our appreciation from Preston Chairman, Paul Turner (M0ECH).  Dave and Paul

Our treasurer, John Thomson (M0FWO), seen here resplendent in Scottish garb, won the raffle, from which £76 was collected for St. Catherine's Hospice. We are all very grateful for the time and effort that John put into organising the evening. Thanks also to Danielle Kelly for running the raffle.

The Quiz was won by Cath Wilson, so the Wilson family will consider the visit to Preston well worth while. Dave will be visiting again on 28th January, when he will be giving us a talk on the work and function of the RSGB.

Lancashire Day 2009 report PDF Print E-mail
Written by Richard Dell

I can only write for myself, as I had to leave early (at 1.15pm) to help my wife with a stall at a Christmas Fair in the Afternoon.

I arrived at about 10.20am to find Bill (G3NQX) hard at work. Mark was poorly and unable to attend. We picked up some UK contacts on 80m, including Chorley ARS using GB0LD. Chorley told us they had made some transatlantic contacts on 20m, but they were using a beam! We tried 20m for about 10 minutes without success (good reception, but cannot really compete with a beam) before returning to 80. Furthest contacts were from Fife (Scotland) and the Isle of Wight. John (2E0JFK) and Alex (G4WYH) joined us later.

Look forward to seeing Mark back with us as soon as possible.
